God’s scale is not 1-10. Ten is not perfection. That belongs to the number 7. Numbers like 8, 10, 12, and 40 also appear in biblical numerology. But for purposes of perfection (completion), the important number is 7.
God created the earth and rested in seven days. The high priest sprinkled blood on the altar seven times on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16:14). Jesus Christ performed seven miracles and gave seven “I Am” statements in the gospel of John. He ministered to the seven churches of Asia in Revelation. These are just a few examples. Readers can find more in the blog post “The Number Seven in Scripture.”
The number of the Holy Spirit is 8 (7 + 1). On the first day of creation, before God said “Let there be light,” the Spirit moved over the waters (Genesis 1:2-3). Four thousand years later, on the first day of the week, the Spirit raised Jesus Christ the Light of the world from the dead (Romans 8:11). The Jewish feast of Pentecost takes place 50 (7 x 7 + 1) days after Passover. Of course the Holy Spirit was poured out on Pentecost, 50 days after Good Friday. The number fits.
Six is the number of man, the day Adam and Eve were created. Six is a high number, but it is short of perfection (7). Simply put, man is incomplete without God. If he wants to be spiritually perfect in this life and enter heaven in the next, he needs “plus one” – the Holy Spirit. Man must submit to Jesus Christ (7) and be transformed and indwelt by the Spirit (8). The idea that man (6) can enter heaven, the eternal abode of divinity (7), without Jesus and the Spirit is blasphemy.
The number of the coming anti-Christ is 666 (Revelation 13:18). His reign will occur at the end of the world’s sixth millennium. It’s the best man can achieve without God and is externally perfect. But this reign of demons will be the denial of God on steroids.
Humble man acknowledges the perfection of Christ (7) and his shortcomings (6). For a person to revel in 666 is blasphemy. Worse, it’s an unholy trinity – a group without organic unity. The divine Trinity is 3-in-1, one number (7) instead of three (777). If any man takes the mark of the beast (666) rather than that of Christ (7), he will be eternally damned (Revelation 14:9-11). In response to all this unholy revelry in the number 6, God will judge the anti-Christ and his followers through a series of sevens: seven seals, seven trumpets, seven last plagues, and seven vials.
The 1000-year reign of Christ and his saints will be the world’s seventh millennium (Revelation 20:1-6). It will be a period of divine perfection (peace, order). After this period and the great white throne judgment will come the eighth and final period (7+1), the new heaven and new earth (Revelation 21:1). The Holy Spirit, in the form of the “river of water of life … proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb,” will permeate it (John 7:37-38, Revelation 22:1).
In God’s math, seven is the number of perfection. Which will you choose: Jesus Christ (7) or the anti-Christ (666)? Your eternal destiny depends on it.
